“Battle for the Band”
The kidnapping
One morning, the restaurateur Hap welcomes the members of the band Feb Rozo and the Sap Tap Trio, whom he regards as old friends. Their reunion is interrupted by the Ganguls, who wreck Hap’s Sap Tap’s furniture. Sellaccc Orryak says that her gang is in need of a band and orders Jooro Jarrot and Toda-Joh to kidnap the band members which consist of a Bith, a Rodian, a Gigoran and an Ardennian and take them to Yarrum. Hap ponders what to do in despair and doubts his ability to rescue the band.
Later the Jedi Initiates Kai Brightstar, Lys Solay and Nubs bring Padawan Wes Vinik for breakfast at Hap’s Sap Tap. They find that the restaurant has been wrecked. Hap emerges from the counter and tells the Jedi that the Ganguls kidnapped Feb Rozo and the Sap Tap Trio. Hap berates himself for being frightened by the pirates and not being a hero like the Jedi. Brightstar and Vinik promise to help Hap get his friends back. When Hap says that he is not a hero like them, Solay and Vinik reassure him that he can help in other ways. Vinik invites Hap along. He believes that the band are in danger.
The Yarrum exchange
The Jedi and Hap get a ride aboard Nash Durango’s Crimson Firehawk. The Firehawk circles Yarrum Tower but find no sign of the Ganguls. Solay spots the Ganguls’ flagship Rathtar’s Revenge hovering over the desert. Durango and RJ-83 fly closer to have a look. Through a Macrobinoculars Brightstar, Vinik and Hap spot a sail barge and other speeders. On the deck, Hap sees Feb and his band. Hap also sees the infamous Hutt crime lord Bulcha, one of the most feared crime lords in Tenoo’s sector, and numerous security droids. Brightstar tasks Durango and RJ-83 with staying behind as getaway pilots while the Jedi infiltrate the ship disguised as guards.
Bulcha reminds Orryak about their deal to trade the band for several armored security droids. When Rozo asks why he and his band are chained, Bulcha reminds them that they are his prisoners. After handing the keys to a red-skinned Twi’lek guard, Bulcha orders the band to play to some music. The four aliens play an upbeat tune, which pleases Bulcha. The Jedi mingle on the deck disguised as pirate guards while Hap hides behind a stack of crates. When a green-skinned Kadas’sa’Nikto notices the strangers, a disguised Hap manages to draw his attention by offering a cold drink for a hot afternoon.
Impressed with Feb Rozo and the Sap Tap Trio’s performance, Bulcha agrees to sell the security droids to the Ganguls in return for the kidnapped band members. To celebrate the deal, Bulcha treats his guests to cold drinks. While Hap serves them, the disguised Jedi younglings approach the band members. The female Ardennian band member is despondent but Brightstar reassures her that they are here to help. Brightstar proposes searching for the keys but Vinik ignites his lightsaber, which he intends to use to free the kidnapped band members.
However, this draws the attention of the pirates and Bulcha. When Bulcha asks about the uninvited guests, Orryak attempts to cover her mistake by offering both the band and the Jedi as prisoners. Vinik demands that the Hutt release their friends. Bulcha instead deploys his three security droids who wield vibroblades. Outnumbered, Vinik convinces his fellow Jedi to deactivate the lightsabers. Bulcha’s guards take the prisoners to the brig while Bulcha returns to sealing the deal with the Ganguls. Orryak orders Jarrot and Joh to bring the security droids back to their shuttle.
Hap to the rescue
Hap panics about the botched rescue mission but recalls Solay’s advice that he can find his own way to help. Before the guards can usher their Jedi prisoners into the brig, Hap confronts the guns and knocks them out with two beverage mugs. Solay and Vinik steal the guard’s keys before locking them inside the brig.
Outside, Bulcha gloats over his lopsided deal with the Ganguls, who have departed in their starship. He reveals that he had acquired the popular Sap Tap Trio band in return for selling two rusty security droids to the pirates. The Jedi confront the Hutt crime lord and his guards. While Hap frees the kidnapped band members, the Jedi fight against Bulcha’s guards, who are armed with vibroblades. Before Hap can free the band members, Bulcha grabs his arm and attempts to assert his authority. Hap temporarily blinds him by splashing a mug on him. He then process to free Rozo and the Sap Tap Trio.
While fighting the Twi’lek guard, Brightstar contacts Durango via holoprojector to request a pick-up. The Nikto guard knocks Vinik to the ground with his vibroblade. The guard is distracted by the Firehawk flying over the sail barge, allowing Vinik to Force push him against a sail mast. Nubs and Solay drive a guard into Bulcha, knocking them over. Durango positions the landing ramp of the Firehawk against the ship’s deck. The Jedi, band members and Hap climb aboard and the ship flies away, leaving a defeated Bulcha behind.
Back in Kublop Springs, Feb Rozo and the Sap Tap Trio hold a concert at Hap’s Sap Tap. Hap tells the crowd that he learnt that anyone can be a hero. He also gives credit to his Jedi friends and Durango. The band play a song.
“Uprooted”
Linh’s new friends
Outside the Tenoo Jedi Temple, Linh works in the Temple garden. Kai Brightstar comes with a bag of soil and Linh talks about her love for gardening. She also mentions that Nubs is an avid gardener. When Brightstar asks about Nubs, the Poobian rushes over with a datapad. He shows them the image of a barellia flower, a rare flower which Linh is familiar with. She says that there is only one such flower on the planet Tenoo. Consulting the datapad, they find that it only thrives under specific conditions and blooms once a year when both of Tenoo’s moons are full, producing one new seed.
Nubs tells his friends that the barellia flower is expected to bloom tonight. Brightstar invites Linh along to watch the barellia flower bloom. Linh is wary of leaving the Temple gardens but Brightstar convinces her to explore her new home surroundings. Linh reluctantly agrees and leaves with the two fellow Jedi younglings.
While walking through the Tenoo tree forest, Linh is startled by the cawing of a Karnis bird. When she asks if it is safe here, Brightstar reassures her that the forest is safe. Reaching a waterfall, Linh admires several large colorful birds but is startled by a pair of sciuridi, prompting her to ignite her lightsaber. The three Jedi reach the coordinates of the barellia flower but discover that it is missing. They find a mound of earth on its spot. Linh fears that if the plant is uprooted, it would not be able to sprout a new flower.
The missing plant
The Jedi resolve to recover the barellia flower. Nubs spots several square droid footprints. The Jedi follow the trail. Linh is nervous but the other younglings encourage her. The three reach a greenhouse. Brightstar figures that whoever is inside could help them explain where the barellia flower is. The younglings also find a pair of farm droids pruning several plants. One of the droids eyes the younglings as they hurry past. The three Jedi younglings find the barellia flower in a pot on a table inside the green house. Linh notices that flower is drooping.
The three younglings are soon confronted by an elderly human woman with bushy white hair named Prue Canti. Canti attempts to shoo them away with a broom but Linh manages to speak to her about the barellia flower. Canti regards the barellia flower as the latest in her collection of fragile flora. She explains that her droids brought it to her this morning and believes she knows what is best for the plant. Before she can shoo the younglings away with her broom, Nubs explains that it is a barellia flower. Canti can understand Poobian but insists that the plant was taken home because it was sick.
Linh explains that the barellia plant is sick because it has been uprooted. Nubs and Brightstar attempt to reason with her but she is unwilling to listen to the children and sends a loadlifter droid armed with a fork to drive them. Brightstar fends off the droid with his lightsaber while Linh and Nubs attempt to recover the flower. Canti dispatches a second loadlifter droid that is armed with a shovel. Nubs trips up the droid while Brightstar tussles with the first loadlifter droid, causing a cupboard containing plants to shake. While Canti attempts to her plants. Linh runs past a tree and attempts to recover the barellia plant. However, she is stopped by Canti, who attempts to force her to give up. Brightstar and Nubs have been captured by the droids.
Reasoning with Prue
Linh spots a pot of ferns and runs out, sliding under one of the droids. Canti follows her but is unwilling to step outside the greenhouse. She demands that Linh return the fern. When Linh reiterates their demand for the barellia flower, Canti replies that outside is not safe. Linh tells Canti that she can understand her love for plants and compliments her greenhouse. Linh shows Canti a datapad explaining that the barellia plant only thrives in its natural habitat and blooms when Tenoo’s two moons are full tonight.
Canti apologizes for her mistake and orders her droids to release the younglings. After returning the datapad to Linh, Canti looks at the barellia flower one last time before returning it to Linh. She allows Linh to leave with her fellow Jedi younglings. Linh invites Canti to accompany them for the barellia plant’s blooming. Canti is reluctant until Linh convinces her to explore her surroundings and promises to be there for her.
Later that night, the younglings and Canti watch as the barellia flower sprout under the two full moons above Tenoo and produces a purple seed. Canti describes the sight as amazing. Linh says that the Jedi Temple gardens are amazing but that Tenoo also has natural beauty outside.
