“Nubs’s Big Mistake”
The school tour
Jedi Masters Zia Zaldor Zanna and Yoda lead several Jedi Initiates, including Kai Brightstar, Lys Solay, and Nubs, on a tour of an ancient Jedi Temple, telling them to learn from what they can see. Brightstar, Solay, and Nubs are interested in a mural of a red-skinned Jedi dressed in white and red robes. Solay wonders what their Jedi predecessors were like, while Nubs is interested in a mural covered by a vine. He pulls down the vine, revealing a mural of an adult Pooba Jedi.
Nubs leads his friends to the Pooba mural. Solay recognizes the mural as an adult Pooba. The three younglings also take an interest in carvings telling how the Pooba saved a town from a monster. Nubs touches a wall panel, revealing a hidden chamber holding the Pooba Jedi’s lightsaber. Nubs and his friends show the Pooba’s lightsaber to Yoda and Zia. Yoda recognizes the lightsaber as belonging to the venerated Jedi Master Barabo. While the lightsaber no longer works, Yoda recognizes it is a valuable historical artifact that must be taken to the Jedi Archives on Coruscant immediately. Since Nubs discovered the lightsaber, Yoda invites him to Coruscant.
Comet trouble
Yoda and Nubs get a ride aboard Nash Durango’s starship, Crimson Firehawk. While calculating a course to Coruscant, RJ-83 warns there are asteroids ahead. Durango assigns Nubs to watch the sensors. Nubs is distracted toying with Barabo’s lightsaber despite Yoda reminding him to man the sensors. Nubs’ distraction causes them to miss an approaching comet. The Crimson Firehawk is caught in the comet’s tail. Since ice trails block their path, Durango sends Nubs to man the top gun turret.
Nubs manages to take out several ice chunks. However, he drops Barabo’s lightsaber. While retrieving it, he is distracted and misses an ice chunk, which strikes the Firehawk and damages the ship’s stabilizer. Though the Firehawk breaks free of the comet, the ship’s stabilizer is damaged. The Firehawk heads to a green jungle planet for repairs. The Firehawk’s stabilizer falls off while descending into the planet’s atmosphere. Durango manages to do a crash-landing on a green field.
The missing stabilizer
Nubs rejoins the others in the cockpit. Speaking in Poobian, Nubs blames himself for their misadventure. Yoda counsels Nubs not to dwell on his mistakes but to focus on finding the stabilizer. Durango agrees with their plan and tasks RJ-83 with watching the ship in their absence. Yoda allows Nubs to bring Barabo’s lightsaber but tells him to keep it safe.
Following the smoke plume generated by the stabilizer, the group approaches a river. Yoda proposes using rocks to cross the river. Durango jumps across a series of rocks, followed by Yoda. Nubs is the third to cross but struggles to focus since he wields Barabo’s lightsaber. With difficulty, he crosses the river with the lightsaber but lands headfirst in a patch of mad. Yoda counsels the despondent Nubs to focus on the present.
Nubs to the rescue
Later, they find the missing stabilizer amid a giant flower. Nubs rushes to retrieve the stabilizer, but the flower is part of a giant carnivorous plant. Nubs manages to escape by clinging to vines from a tree above but loses the stabilizer and Barabo’s lightsaber. Nubs believes he has failed, but Yoda reassures him that he is not a failure. Yoda tells Nubs that he has the potential to be a great Jedi like Master Barabo and counsels him not to focus on his mistakes but rather on making things right.
Looking at his surroundings, Nubs notices that the tree he is trapped on has blue berries. After chomping on a blue berry, Nubs puts his plan into action. While Durango brings a stick, Yoda uses the Force to levitate several blue fruits above the carnivorous plant. While the plant is distracted, Durango jumps down and uses the stick to force open the leaves of the carnivorous plant.
Durango jumps clear while Nubs swings down using the tree’s vine and snatches the stabilizer and lightsaber from the plant’s maw. Nubs throws the stabilizer towards Durango. As the swing pulls upward, the vine pulls the stick free. Yoda uses the Force to drop the berries into the plant’s maw. Nubs swings down with Barabo’s lightsaber. Speaking in Poobian, Nubs is jubilant. Durango hugs him while Yoda praises the youngling for being brave and focused like Master Barabo. Durango leads the way back to the Firehawk. Yoda reassures Nubs that the lightsaber is in good hands.
Repairing Barabo’s lightsaber
At the Jedi Temple, Yoda introduces Nubs and Durango to the architect droid Master Huyang. Yoda says that Huyang will guide him in building his lightsaber. Examining the lightsaber, Huyang confirms that the lightsaber belonged to the great Master Barabo. While examining the lightsaber’s interior, he notices that its kyber crystal has become dislodged and that its focusing ring is damaged. Huyang repairs Barabo’s lightsaber and allows Nubs to ignite it with Yoda’s approval.
“The Jedi Rescue”
A supply trip
The episode opens with Jedi Padawan Wes Vinik and the younglings Nash Durango, Lys Solay, Nubs, and Kai Brightstar, leaving Yarrum Tower with boxes of supplies. Vinik doesn’t understand why they had to come to a pirate haven to get supplies for Jedi Master Zia Zaldor Zanna. Brightstar explains that this is the only place they can find them, reassuring Vinik that not all pirates are bad. Vinik disagrees due to his experience with pirates.
The younglings are recognized by their Abednedo friend Chigg, a former pirate. Vinik doesn’t trust Chigg, but Brightstar reassures Vinik that Chigg and his crew only sell fruit. While checking their datapad, Solay realizes they forgot to get a coolant vaporizer. Durango sends Vinik back to the Yarrum Tower marketplace to get vaporized while the others load up the Firehawk. Vinik is reluctant but reluctantly agrees since they are running late. Solay thinks it will be a good opportunity for Vinik to get to know some nice pirates.
The Ganguls’ plot
While in the marketplace, he comes across the Ganguls gang. The Ganguls’ leader, Sellaccc Orryak, is inviting the other pirates to join their gang in return for receiving new starships. Orryak tells the assembled pirates that there is a shipyard on Variax with several starships. She tells them that they get to keep their starship for themselves if they participate. A Jablogian describes her plan as bold and asks who she is. Orryak introduces herself and her crew, Jooro Jarrot and Toda-Joh, as the Ganguls, whom she claims is the ultimate “pirate power” in Tenoo’s sector.
Vinik, who is familiar with the Ganguls, mocks Orryak. When Orryak asks if he is spoiling for a fight, Vinik responds that he is familiar with her moves and challenges her to a fight. Orryak pretends to parley but signals Jarrot to trap Vinik under an energy net. Vinik is unable to retrieve his lightsaber. A jubilant Orryak invites the other pirates to join her for her raids. Several pirates began chanting for the Ganguls.
Boarding the Rathtar’s Revenge
Later, Brightstar, Solay, and Nubs venture into the marketplace to search for Vinik. They find the Ganguls and their recruits escorting a captive, Vinik, aboard a shuttle. As the shuttle ramp closes, the Ganguls’ new starship, Rathtar’s Revenge, emerges from the clouds. The three Jedi Initiates use grappling cables to hitch a ride aboard the hull of the Ganguls’ shuttle. They climb to the shuttle’s roof as it enters the hangar. Several security droids guard the hangar bay of the Rathtar’s Revenge.
Orryak, the recruits, and a captive Vinik exit the shuttle. Orryak introduces the new pirates to her new flagship. The Ganguls take the captive Vinik to the bridge with them. While the Jedi younglings navigate a corridor, a grey mouse droid bumps into Nubs. Nubs attempts to trap the mouse droid, but it spins around to knock him off. A Gigoran and green Twi’lek walk past. The mouse droid carries Nubs to a blast door. Brightstar and Solay run after their friend. The door slides open to reveal Orryak and the bridge.
The three younglings tackle Orryak to the ground and find Vinik bound against a railing. The younglings are trapped by Jarrot and Joh, the latter of whom traps them in an energy net. Vinik demands that Orryak release the Jedi initiates. Orryak orders one of her recruits, Chegg, to dispose of the younglings, who are shocked that Chigg has joined the Ganguls. Vinik believes Chegg is a traitor and says, “Once a pirate, always a pirate.” Chigg marches Brightstars, Solay, and Nubs out of the bridge.
Once inside the corridors, Chigg releases their magnetic binders and reveals that he was pretending to join the Ganguls. After returning their lightsabers, he tells them to find a place to hide and get Durango to rendezvous with them on Variax. Chigg says that he will meet them at the hangar.
Skirmish over Variax
Later, the Rathtar’s Revenge exits hyperspace above Variax, a purple desert planet. The pirate warship approaches the Variax shipyard, which lies on a plateau. Jarrot binds Vinik to the boarding stairs in the hangar. Orryak tells Vinik that she wants him to watch the Ganguls’ victory. She believes that obtaining these starships will make the Gangul fleet unstoppable. Vinik struggles to break free and snarls at Chigg, believing him to be the enemy. From their hiding place, Brightstar contacts Durango, telling her to stage a distraction so that they can rescue Vinik.
The Firehawk bursts from a cloud. Durango and RJ-83 fly into the Rathtar’s Revenge’s hangar as Orryak delivers a battle speech. She uses her ship’s thrusters to disorientate the pirates. The Jedi younglings activate their lightsabers and demand that Orryak free their friend. Orryak orders her pirates and security droids to attack the younglings. The Jedi fight back with their lightsaber and Force powers, scattering the first wave. Orryak dispatches more reinforcements through three different doors.
Three security droids attack the Firehawk, attempting to breach the transparisteel canopy and hull with their electrostaffs. Durango spins her starship, shaking off the intruders. She accidentally fires two missiles through the ship’s hangar, causing the ship to tilt sideways. Vinik is dragged downwards by the boarding stairs. Brightstar, Solay, and Nubs cling to the floor using grappling cables. Chigg turns on the Ganguls, stealing an electrostaff from a security droid.
Chigg rushes over to help Vinik, who doesn’t trust him because he thinks he betrayed his youngling friends. Chigg uses Vinik’s lightsaber to slice through his cuffs and the metal. After freeing Vinik, Chigg tells the Padawan that he pretended to join the Ganguls and says any friend of those “kids” is his friend. He passes Vinik his lightsaber. Vinik thanks Chigg, who dodges as an energy net hits the floor. Orryak denounces Chigg for his betrayal. Chigg replies that he is not a pirate.
Meanwhile, Durango positions the Firehawk’s landing ramp near the younglings, who board the shuttle. Chigg and Vinik dodge another of Orryak’s electric nets. They then jump onto the Firehawk’s ramp. Durango flies the five out of the Rathtar’s Revenge’s hangar. A squadron of starfighters from Variax security converge around the stricken Rathtar’s Revenge and order the pirates to leave. Orryak shouts in fury.
Aftermath
Returning to Yarrum Tower, Vinik reflects on their recent adventure and meeting a new friend. Vinik apologizes to Chigg for not trusting him earlier. Vinik hugs him while the younglings laugh.
