Story
“Tenoo’s Fastest”
Enter monopod racing
Nash Durango, Kai Brightstar, Nubs and Lys Solay watch a monopod race from a rope bridge. Durango narrates the race, taking an interest in the racer Wiston Freng, who is riding a monopod. Durango says that Freng inspired her interest in monopod racing. Following the race, Durango gives her friends a tour of the Pit Row, where the pilots gather for refueling and repairs. Several pit droids work on the monopods while an engineering droid works on a console, with Durango explaining that its job is to keep things running smoothly during the race.
Durango says that a monopod race consists of three laps. She explains that the Monopod Circuit runs across the galaxy but that today is the first time they have to Tenoo. Durango says she has been waiting for this day for several months. The Pantoran Wiston Freng climbs out of his monopod and removes his helmet, catching Durango’s attention. Shortly later, a Dug racer named Jaj Omie emerges from his monopod and argues with a pair of pit droids. He walks through Durango and her friends, with Durango describing him as a rival to Freng and a notorious “rule breaker.”
Solay suggests that they should greet Freng but Durango is too awe-struck by her hero. Brightstar introduces Durango, Solay and Nubs. When Freng expresses his surprise at seeing Jedi younglings who are interested in podracing, Brighstar proceeds to introduce Durango as an avid monopod racing fan. Freng says he is eager to meet Durango, whom he describes as the fastest racer on Tenoo. When Durango tries to be modest, Freng tells her about his “rags to riches” story and invites her to help make some last minute repairs.
Inspecting Wiston Freng’s monopod, Durango thinks that his vehicle needs a new pressure regulator. Meanwhile, Omie stalks Freng’s engineering droid JK-46 and deactivates it from behind. He then dumps the droid inside a metal chest. Following the repairs, Freng notices that JK-46 is missing. Nubs mutters something in Poobian while the Toong announcer orders the pilots to climb onto their monopods. Durango panics about Freng being unable to race without an engineer. Freng invites Durango to serve as a replacement engineer, using her skills as a mechanic and a pilot.
Freng’s engineer
Durango is initially reluctant until Freng warns that he will forfeit the race without an engineer. The Toong announcer notices Durango and expresses surprise that Freng is using a human child as his engineer. Durango waves to her mothers Ceeli and Kryys Durango. Durango is unsure about the controls but Freng reassures her that they only need to stay in front. The monopods charge ahead at the announcer’s signal, startling Durango.
During the race, Freng asks Durango to fix the misaligned stabilizer. Durango manages to press a button that fixes the stabilizer. Meanwhile, Omie rams a monopod that is piloted by a Toong pilot, knocking him out of the race. The monopods fly above the roots of a giant Tenoo tree. Freng takes the lead with Omie second place. The monopods race over the forest canopy, having passed the Tenoo Tunnel. Together, Freng and Durango complete the first lap of the three-leg race. The Jedi younglings cheer from the Pit Row
Shortly later, Omie races through the pit row, disabling both of Freng’s pit droids. Needing a new pit crew, Durango tasks her droid RJ-83 with guiding her Jedi friends. Freng accepts Durango’s offer. During the second leg, Freng’s monopod’s intake begins breaking down. Durango panics but Freng reassures her that he believes in her, telling her not to give up and that she belongs to her. After pressing several buttons, Durango manages to clear the intake.
Teamwork and victory
Needing repairs, Freng takes his monopod to the pit stop where RJ-83 guides the Jedi younglings. Brightstar uses a wrench to fix bolts while Solay refuels the monopod. Nubs gives the surface a wipe. During the third leg, Freng catches up with two other monopods, which are being driven by an Aleena and a Mirialan. They attempt to sandwich him but he brakes suddenly, causing the two rival monopods to collide with each other and crash. Durango avoids getting hit with debris but the monopod’s stabilizer fin is damaged by falling debris. Omie races ahead.
As Freng’s monopod navigates through the Tenoo Tunnel, Freng tasks Durango with fixing the fin. With Durango not tall enough to reach the fin, Freng convinces her to swap seats. Freng convinces Durango to pilot the monopod while he fixes the stabilizer. Durango flies the monopod through the forest canopy. The Toong announcer notices the switch and offers a running commentary. Freng’s racer catches up with Omie’s racer near the final section of the race. He attempts to ram Omie’s monopod but Durango manages to swerve, causing the Dug’s monopod to hit a barrier and crash.
The Toong announcer announces Durango as the winner. Ceeli and Kryys cheer for their daughter. Omie rages in Dug and is splattered by oil from his damaged monopod. Following the race, the Jedi younglings and the others gather around Durango and Freng. Out of gratitude, Freng gifts Durango his crash helmet as a reminder that she belongs here. She thanks him while the Toong announcer awards Freng and Durango as the winners of the Tenoo Grand Tour. They are joined by JK-46.
“Home Sweet Temple”
The library mishap
At the Tenoo Jedi Temple’s library, Jedi youngling Kai Brightstar is mesmerized by a hologram of a Jedi practising with his lightsaber. While trying to copy his move, Brightstar trips on a cart of holobooks. The cart hits a ladder platform, which knocks into a bookcase. The bookcase falls with only the ladder platform holding it up. A Rodian youngling snaps a photo with his holocamera. Shortly later, Lys Solay, Nubs, the caretaker droid Dee and Jedi Master Zia Zaldor Zanna enter the library and discover the mess.
Master Zia asks if Brightstar was practising lighstaber moves inside the library. Brightstar admits his mistake and Zanna reminds him that the Jedi need to be responsible for their mess. Brightstar agrees to put back the books but Solay grumbles about missing the sky skimming races. Nubs offers to help but Brightstar declines their offer, saying that he will handle the mess and allowing them to have fun. Zanna commends Brightstar for taking responsibility and tasks Dee with helping the youngling. Dee is tasked with making chilled Calitog root soup for Master Zia. Zanna leaves with the other students.
Rescue and refuge
Elsewhere, Ace Kallisto sneaks into Bulcha the Hutt’s camp and rescues her droid JNX-09 (Jinx) from a crate. Before they can escape, Bulcha and his security droid and astromech droid block their path and demand to know what Kallisto is doing. When Kallisto responds that Jinx does not belong to him, Bulcha says that the droid is his master codebreaker, who helps him to steal anything from the galaxy. Kallisto kicks a stack of crates, taking advantage of the chaos to flee into space.
While escaping a desert world, Ace’s ship’s pulse regulator is damaged by Bulcha’s ship’s laser cannons. Though Ace’s ship is able to jump into hyperspace, the ship’s pulse regulator is damaged. Kallisto tells Jinx that she knows where to get one. Meanwhile on Tenoo, Brightstar finishes tidying up the bookcase. Dee informs him that somebody is visiting the Jedi Temple seeking his help. At the door, Brightstar and Dee are greeted by Kallisto and her droid Jinx. Kalliston explains that her ship is damaged and asks if Master Zia is at home.
Brightstar explains that Zia and the rest of the Jedi have gone out for the day. Just then, Bulcha’s ship arrives above the Tenoo Jedi Temple. Kallisto tells them that they need to flee inside and to look the doors. From the battlements, Brightstar and the others watch as Bulcha and several security droids and spider droids disembark from his starship. Kallisto explains that Bulcha stole Jinx and that she stole Jinx back, incurring the Hutt’s wrath. Brightstar attempts to contact Master Zia via holoprojector but Bulcha has begun jamming the Temple’s signals.
The siege
From the ground, Bulcha demands the return of Jinx. Brightstar tells the Hutt crime lord to leave but Bulcha threatens to storm the Jedi Temple with his army. Kallisto backs Brighstar up. In response, Bulcha orders his security droids to scale the walls of the Tenoo Jedi Temple. The droids chip away at the masonry as they climb up the structure, startling Brightstar who grumbles that Master Zia will not be pleased. Dee hurls two flower pots at the besieging droids but this does not derail their climb.
Two security droids scale the battlements. Kai Brightstar fights one with his second lightsaber while the droid deploys a two-pronged vibroblade. Kallisto steals a vibroblade and tangles with a droid. Dee tries to knock out the droid attacking Brightstar with a flower pot, distracting it long enough for Brightstar to disable it from behind. Kallisto loses her stolen vibroblade but Jinx disables the second security droid by opening its hatch.
Bulcha and his other droids force their way through the front gate, damaging the two swinging doors. He demands that Brightstar and Kallisto surrender Jinx. When Brightstar draws his lightsaber, Bulcha sends his two spider droids to attack him. The spider droids fire their blasters, damaging the ceiling and structure. The trio retreat inside the cafeteria, with Bulcha and his droids in hot pursuit. Bulcha hurls aside tables and chairs.
Working together with Kallisto, Brightstar creates a distraction by levitating and tossing a pail. While the Hutt and droids are distracted, they flee into a bedroom. Brightstar is despondent that he is not able to protect the Jedi temple. Dee reassures him that taking care of everyone inside is more important than looking after a place. Brightstar is encouraged by Dee’s words. When Jinx accidentally dislodges a game box, Brightstar comes up with plan to expel the unwelcome intruders. He tells Dee that it will involve his soup.
Expelling the home invaders
Putting his plan into action, Brightstar leads Bulcha and his gang on a chase through the Temple corridors into the Temple library. Inside the library, Brightstar delivers an ultimatum. When Bulcha ignores it and orders his droids to charge, Dee releases several pots and cauldrons of green Calitog root soup on the droid. Dee uses a vine to swing down but is captured by a security droid. Bulcha, who is unharmed, demands that they hand over Jinx. Jinx appears and together with Kallisto lures Bulcha between two book cases. Brightstar releases a platform ladder holding a bookcase up, triggering a domino effect throughout the library. Bulcha is pinned between two book cases and buried under books.
Brightstar powers down a security droid. Shortly later, an armed Master Zia arrives with Padawan Wes Vinik, Solay and Nubs, who are also armed with lightsabers. She resolves to remove Bucha. Later, Dee escorts Bucha and his deactivated security and spider droids aboard Bucha’s ship. Dee warns Bucha not to steal from other people. Bucha vows revenge and warns Brightstar they will meet again as his droids retract the ramp, much to his dismay. Bucha’s ship flies away.
Brightstar apologizes to Master Zia that the Temple was damaged under his watch. Kallisto comforts him with a pat on the back. Master Zia reassures him that there is nothing to apologize. While a home is important, she adds that the people inside are more important. As they head for dinner inside, Brightstar begins to tell her about the root soup. The episode ends with a shot of a Tenoo tree on top of the Tenoo Jedi Temple.
