Background: At Attin was a forested planet with an orderly population that was isolated from the wider galaxy by the New Republic Era. Citizens worked diligently with the help of service droids of various types on the world. While its people lived beneath the Barrier, which blocked any view of the stars, At Attin was known to the wider galaxy as a legendary lost planet of eternal treasure.
At Attin and eight other planets were hidden by the Galactic Republic. Isolated from the wider galaxy, the planet’s populace worked diligently as part of the Republic’s Great Work program, oblivious to events off-world. At Attin’s civil society was comprised of analysts and statistical accountants and considered itself an important contribution to the Republic. The city and suburbs were serviced by droids operating under the Office of the Supervisor for At Attin’s government and its Great Work program. Service droids maintained public utilities such as roads, trams, and schools, while safety droids patrolled the city to ensure laws were followed. Passage through the barrier without government authorization was illegal. At some point, the starship Onyx Cinder was buried in the forest near At Attin’s city.
After the glory days of the High Republic Era and a period marked by decline and corruption, the democratic Republic was faced by the devastating Clone Wars and then transformed into the Galactic Empire, which was only overthrown after war and tragedy, such as destruction of Alderaan. At some point, the other so-called “Jewels of the Old Republic” were destroyed, and off-world, At Attin became a mythical “lost planet of eternal treasure” by the New Republic Era. Children were told of it in stories, pirates sung its name in shanties, and its legend spread far in rumor to those seeking treasure. On At Attin, children grew up with heroic tales of the Jedi, and school students studied features of the Republic, such as the worlds Coruscant and Alderaan, but focused on mathematics for the Career Assessment Test in middle school. The exam determined each individual’s career path. Some children modified and raced hoverbikes as a pastime in their neighborhoods.
Around 9 ABY, At Attin Middle School Gamma students Wim, Neel, Fern, and KB found the buried starship with a droid named SM-33, along with a rat. Wim activated the ship and the children were unable to stop its course, leaving At Attin and into hyperspace. The Skeleton Crew reached Port Borgo, where they sought directions home but instead ran into a pirate gang led by Captain Brutus.
