Background: 2X-3KPR was a KPR security droid that belonged to the Lars family, who used it as a perimeter droid at their homestead on the desert planet Tatooine. In 9 BBY, the droid stood stationary outside the homestead with it’s dome lit yellow when the Jedi-in-hiding Obi-Wan Kenobi approached the structure and left a toy T-16 skyhopper outside for Luke Skywalker, the adopted son of the homestead’s owners, Owen Lars and Beru Lars. It was also stood outside the house lit yellow on another night, shortly before Owen learned that the former Inquisitor Reva Sevander was on Tatooine searching for Skywalker.
Knowing Reva would come to the homestead, Owen and Beru prepared for attack and set 2X-3KPR on alert conditions that it announced by having its warning dome lit red. When Reva did arrive that night she passed the red-lit droid outside the homestead, after which a perimeter alarm sounded within the homestead, warning Owen and Beru of Reva’s approach. After Reva fought her way past his parents, Skywalker fled from the homestead past 2X-3KPR. By the time Kenobi arrived to help Beru and Owen search for Luke, the droid had moved from the spot where it had stood stationary.
In 0 BBY, the droid rolled passed Skywalker and the protocol droid C-3PO as Skywalker used his macrobinoculars to search for the missing astromech droid R2-D2 in the night. The next day, Skywalker and C-3PO left the homestead to search for R2-D2, after which Imperial stormtroopers arrived searching for C-3PO and R2-D2. The Imperials killed Owen and Beru, prompting Skywalker to depart Tatooine and leave the homestead abandoned for many years.
