Background: Yané, originally known as Suyan Higin, was a human woman from the planet Naboo who served the Royal House of Naboo. Suyan worked as a weaver and was approached by Captain Quarsh Panaka of the Royal Naboo Security Forces while making blankets for a hospital. He recruited her to become one of the royal handmaidens in service of the newly elected Queen Padmé Amidala. After becoming a handmaiden, Suyan changed her name to Yané, along with the other handmaidens. When Amidala left Naboo for Coruscant, Yané, and Saché stayed behind to help with the resistance against the Trade Federation’s invasion and occupation.
Yané was known for her dedication to helping Naboo’s orphans. After leaving Amidala’s service, she purchased a large house and fostered many children there. She and Saché, who served in the Naboo planetary legislative assembly, made it their home together and eventually married around 24 BBY. Yané also took in child survivors of the mudslide disaster in 22 BBY.
