Background: Lyra Erso, a human female, was married to the scientist Galen Erso. While Galen was researching kyber crystals on Vallt during the Clone Wars, he was arrested for espionage by Confederate loyalists. While Galen was in confinement, their daughter, Jyn, was born. Fortunately, Lieutenant Commander Orson Krennic, an old friend of Galen’s and a member of Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine’s top-secret Death Star project, rescued the family.
Krennic managed to persuade Galen to continue his research on kyber crystals. But, in reality, Krennic secretly used Galen’s research to turn the crystals into weapons for the Death Star. Over time, Lyra began to suspect Krennic’s true intentions for rescuing her family. She eventually convinced Galen to stop his research on the crystals and escape with the help of Saw Gerrera. They fled from Coruscant to Lah’mu. Four years later, Krennic and a squad of death troopers found the Erso family and attempted to bring them back to Coruscant. Lyra was killed by a death trooper when she threatened Krennic with a blaster.
After some time, Jyn joined the Alliance to Restore the Republic and managed to steal the plans for the Death Star battle station, which had been Krennic’s accomplishment. However, Rogue One had to make a great sacrifice. Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin ordered the Death Star to attack Scarif, destroying Rogue One and all the Imperial troops present, including Krennic. This ultimately proved Lyra’s final words to be correct.
