Background: Flame beetles were a species of beetle that lived on the planet Kashyyyk. The creatures consumed local plants and synthesized their remains into a highly flammable derivative, giving them their signature bioluminescent abdomen. They were then able to make these chemicals spontaneously combust when in proximity to an enemy or upon death.
In 14 BBY, during Cal Kestis’ mission to Kashyyyk, he encountered many flame beetles that assaulted him. He killed many to continue his mission.
