Background: Originally begun as a cheaper off-shoot of the Corellian Gunship, the Assault-Class Gunboat began to find its own niche in the starship market. Up to date technology and modernized design make this ship not nearly as expensive as the Gunship, however it is not as heavily armed. The Gunboat requires
far less crew and for its size still packs a considerable punch, in exchange the majority of the ship’s interior is made up of the engines and power capacitor. Some chose not to acquire the vessel to their fleets due to the turret limitations. That being said, some systems chose to employ it as an addition to System Patrol Craft or as escort vessels running picket duty for large convoys hoping to avoid losses to pirates or marauders. Due to it’s power output the ship is classified as a Capital Ship.
