Background: The Nydaks, known as Lesser Nydaks, were fierce predators indigenous to Dathomir. These carnivorous creatures possessed an incredibly aggressive nature, making them a formidable adversary. Their robust arms enabled them to effortlessly navigate the rugged terrain of Dathomir. Among the Nydak species, the Nydak Alpha was the dominant subspecies, owing to its impressive size and strength. These creatures were identified by their black eyes, blue and light brown skin covered in spikes, and two massive tusks on either side of their mouth. Moreover, the lengthy, sharp claws on their hands facilitated climbing and traversing challenging terrain.

On Dathomir, Nydaks were apex predators. Being carnivorous and highly aggressive, they would often use their agility to ambush their prey. The species had no natural predators other than the Chirodactyl Gorgara. Nydaks were a solitary species, and would rarely be found in packs after adolescence. They had dens.

In local legends, the species was known as the “scourge of Dathomir,” and was greatly feared by the Nightbrothers. However, according to other local legends, several Nightsisters kept them as familiars.

Prior to the massacre of the Nightsisters by General Grievous and his Separatist Droid Army in 20 BBY, Merrin had a pet bramble lynx named Teeno that was fond of nydak’s blood. In 14 BBY, Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis encountered several nydaks while visiting Dathomir. One of them was being kept in a pit, where rogue Nightbrothers were thrown by other Nightbrothers, as an example to be killed and eaten by the beast.[1] Kestis would later compare briefly staying somewhere after encountering trouble to finding one’s way into a nydak’s den and lying low.
