Background: Kalevala was a planet located in the Mandalore system, within the Mandalore sector of the galaxy’s Outer Rim Territories, that was the homeworld of House Kryze. It was the birthplace of Duchess Satine Kryze, leader of the New Mandalorians and the Council of Neutral Systems during the Clone Wars. It shared its name with the company, Kalevala Spaceworks that produced the Coronet, a custom made Nau’ur-class yacht.

Long before the Clone Wars, ancient Kalevalan ocean cruisers were used to traverse the various oceans on the planet. Kalevala was later the homeworld of Duchess Satine Kryze, leader of the New Mandalorians, and Senator Tal Merrik, who represented Kalevala in the Senate of the Galactic Republic by the year 21 BBY, up until his death that same year. Shortly afterwards, while Duchess Satine was on the Republic capital of Coruscant arguing against a proposed Republic intervention on Mandalore, the Mandalorian homeworld, to fight the Death Watch, a Mandalorian splinter group that opposed her pacifistic faction, New Mandalorian Deputy Minister Jerec was killed in a Death Watch bombing on Kalevala.

During the New Republic era, the Mandalorian Bounty hunter Din Djarin and the Foundling Grogu visited Kalevala where they met with Lady Bo-Katan Kryze in her castle. After talking to Bo and finding out the location of the Mines of Mandalore on the Outer Rim planet Mandalore, Din left the castle in his quest to redeem himself in the eyes of the Children of the Watch by bathing in the Living waters of Mandalore.
