Background: Coleman Kcaj was born on Skustell and belonged to the Ongree species. He was appointed to the Jedi Council, the governing body of the Jedi Order, in 19 BBY after Adi Gallia was killed on Florrum the previous year.
During a Council meeting, Kcaj was present to discuss the fate of Padawan Ahsoka Tano, who was accused of murdering Letta Turmond and orchestrating the bombing of the Jedi Temple. Wilhuff Tarkin informed the Council that the Galactic Senate wanted to put Tano on a military trial. After much debate, the Council decided to expel Tano from the Order. Tano was then put on trial by the Galactic Republic, but it was eventually revealed that Padawan Barriss Offee was the true culprit.
During an investigation on Kamino regarding clone trooper Tup, who murdered Jedi Master Tiplar due to a malfunctioning and secret biochip, Kcaj participated in a holographic council meeting. Jedi Master Shaak Ti expressed her belief that Tup may have a tumor.
Later, Kcaj was present when the Council agreed to send Jedi Master Mace Windu alongside Junior Representative Jar Jar Binks on an assignment to investigate several disappearances on Bardotta, including that of their Queen Julia.
During Plo Koon’s report, Kcaj was present when he discovered Master Sifo-Dyas’ lightsaber. Yoda confirmed its authenticity and decided to investigate further. Later, when it was reported that Dooku was responsible for creating the clone army, Kcaj was again present. However, the Council kept this a secret to prevent the public from losing trust in the Republic if the truth became known.
During the Council meeting, Kcaj was present when Yoda revealed that he had heard the voice of Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn in his head. Yoda hoped to decipher the meaning of the communication from beyond. The Council meditated with Yoda, but none of them heard the voice.
During the discussion about a massive kyber crystal discovered on Utapau, Kcaj was in attendance with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. Later, when they reported the crystal’s destruction, Yoda reminded the Council of the Sith’s use of kyber crystals as weapons from past stories. Kcaj was also present during this reminder.
After the Battle of Coruscant, Kcaj was spotted conversing with Senator Sweitt Concorkill at the Galaxies Opera House before a showing of Squid Lake.
Towards the war’s end, Kcaj was present during a Council meeting where Skywalker was granted a seat on the Jedi Council. This decision came after Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine appointed him. Kcaj was also present when the Council discussed Palpatine’s recommendation to send Skywalker to lead the campaign on Utapau, where General Grievous was believed to be hiding. However, the Council sent Kenobi instead due to his greater experience as a Master. Shortly after this, Palpatine declared himself Emperor, and Skywalker, now known as Darth Vader, helped destroy the Jedi Order.
During the Galactic Empire, Kcaj was one of the few Jedi who evaded the brutal aftermath of Order 66. Though initially believed to be dead, Kcaj’s name was eventually added to a list of confirmed survivors compiled by the Inquisitorius. This occurred after the search for Eeth Koth and Kcaj had successfully remained hidden from the Empire for five years.
Within another five years, however, Kcaj had been found and executed by the Inquisitors. His body was then taken and entombed in their headquarters, the Fortress Inquisitorius, on the ocean moon of Nur in the Mustafar system. When Obi-Wan Kenobi entered the Fortress Inquisitorius to rescue Princess Leia Organa, Kenobi was shocked to find his fellow Jedi Council member’s corpse lying next to many others. Despite being petrified by the sight, he remained determined and continued his mission.
