Background: Quell was a planet located within the far reaches of the Quell system in the Outer Rim Territories. When viewed from space, the world’s surface was cerulean in color and was almost entirely covered by white clouds. In 21 BBY, during the Clone Wars, a battle took place in the planet’s orbit between a Galactic Republic fleet led by Jedi General Aayla Secura and a Separatist Alliance squadron commanded by the T-series tactical droid TF-1726.
Later falling into Quell’s upper atmosphere, the Republic fleet suffered heavy casualties as it lost all of its Venator-class Star Destroyers. However, before her Venator was destroyed, Secura was rescued by fellow Jedi General Anakin Skywalker, but were incidentally sent to the planet Maridun following her rescue. An unqualified Separatist victory, the campaign revealed that the Republic struggled to maintain control in the Outer Rim, where separatism flourished, and that their victory in the war would not be easily secured.
