Background: The Staircase Droid was designed to aid disembarking passengers from starships and shuttles. It moved next to the ferry using repulsors on its base and guided by a photoreceptor-equipped “head” and would then deploy three steps and a connection platform from its “body” to allow passengers to easily leave their ferry.
A model droid that acted as a staircase was used on shuttle ferry stations on Ferrix in 5 BBY.
