Species: Joopa
Planet of Origin: Seelos

DEXTERITY 2D
Burrowing 7D

PERCEPTION 1D
Hide 4D, search 3D+1

STRENGTH 5D+1
Brawling: grappling tongue 7D+1

Special Abilities:
Tunneling: The joopa can burrow through hard earth (but not rock) with a Move of 25.

Swallow Whole: A joopa can swallow victims less than half its size. When the joopa makes a successful attack with its tongue (up to 35 meters), it will attempt to grasp its target. The target may make a difficult Strength or brawling parry roll. If the character’s roll is higher, then the attempt to grasp is unsuccessful. Characters that the Joopa has grasped are then pulled into its mouth during the next round. Characters can attempt to prevent themselves from being swallowed whole by making an opposed Strength or Brawling check against the Strength of the Joopa. Swallowed creatures take STR damage each round from the creature’s potent digestive juices (cannot be defended against, though some closed-system equipment may afford temporary protection).

Sense Vibrations: Joopa are attuned to the vibrations of approaching objects in contact with the ground up to 300 meters away (roll a search skill check difficulty based on scale; the GM may give additional modifiers as appropriate to the scene. Walker: Very Easy, Speeder: Easy, Character: Moderate).

Armor: +2D to resist physical damage.

Move: 10 (on land), 25 (underground)
Size: 26 meters long
Scale: Speeder

Background: Joopas, or joopa worms, were a non-sentient species of giant, worm-like creatures that lived below the surface of the dusty planet Seelos and could grow to be 21 meters in length. Their distinguishing features included a crown of bright red eyes, long pink tongues, and carapaces of rigid plates covering their otherwise soft bodies. They had a membrane behind their eyes that caused the retinas to reflect light, making their eyes to appear to glow. Lacking teeth, they swallowed prey whole. They were particularly fond of Lasat meat. They were known to use their prehensile tongue to snatch prey on the surface while remaining underground, but could emerge from the ground to attack directly.

Following the proclamation of the Galactic Empire, some clone troopers of the defunct Galactic Republic (Rex, Wolffe, and Gregor) retired to Seelos, where they would hunt joopas, which Gregor described as delicious. Some time after the fifteenth celebration of Empire Day, the rebel team known as the Spectres traveled to Seelos in search of the clones, whose skills could help the fledgling rebellion. In order to help the clones catch a joopa, Spectres member Garazeb Orrelios, a Lasat, agreed to be used as bait.
