Background: R4-G9 was a feminine astromech droid with white plating, bronze outlines, and a green sensor. She was assigned to Jedi Aayla Secura and later Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi right at the end of the Clone Wars in 19 BBY. She served as the replacement to Kenobi’s previous droid R4-P17 for she had been destroyed by buzz droids while assisting her master in the Battle of Coruscant.
R4-G9 was taken to Pau City on the planet Utapau, where after a negotiating with the Pau’an Tion Medon, Kenobi ordered that she fly his Jedi interceptor back to the Vigilance to report to Commander Cody and prepare the 212th Attack Battalion for the Battle of Utapau.
Sometime before the Battle of Utapau, R4-G9 was produced by Industrial Automaton. During the Clone Wars, she was owned by Jedi Aayla Secura, who once loaned the droid to the human Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi of the Jedi High Council for his search for Asajj Ventress. In 19 BBY, R4-G9 once again worked with Kenobi just days after the Battle of Coruscant, where his previous astromech droid, R4-P17, was destroyed by buzz droids. R4-G9 served as the quick replacement for his old droid companion.
R4-G9 was taken to the planet Utapau where Kenobi landed his interceptor in front of Pau City to converse with the Pau’an Port Administrator Tion Medon about the location of General Grievous. A group of Utai came to work on his starship as the conversation began. Medon stated that the Kaleesh was situated on the tenth level with thousands of Battle droids ready for attack, and Kenobi would later tell R4-G9 to fly back to the Vigilance to inform Cody, the Clone Marshal Commander of the 7th Sky Corps, which would later strike attack against Grievous and his droid army.
