Background: Tay Grutty was a human criminal who lived during the Republic Era and was a member of the Duros criminal gang led by Lazlo. After Lazlo’s death, Grutty continued to serve Lazlo’s successor, Cad Bane. Grutty met Vak Lako at a spaceport, where Grutty went looking for Bane’s girlfriend, Arin, and found out she had married the marshal and Bane’s old friend, Niro. Grutty warned Niro in a bar and left to inform Bane of Arin and Niro. When Bane confronted Niro, Grutty used a blaster rifle and killed several police droids before Niro killed them.
