Background: Daynaal was a Trandoshan male who lived during the High Republic Era. He was the nephew of the pirate Sellaccc Orryak, leader of the Ganguls. Orryak tried to teach him how to be a pirate by having him assist her in ruining the Life Day celebrations of the Wookiees on the planet Kashyyyk, although Daynaal was reluctant. After the Ganguls shot down a shuttle carrying food for the Life Day feast, Orryak had Daynaal transport the supplies. Daynaal was pursued to the Ganguls’ shuttle by the Jedi Initiates Kai Brightstar, Lys Solay, and Nubs, as well as the Wookiee Johgeshakka, whose brother Rudi had been piloting the starship and had been taken prisoner by Orryak. The Ganguls captured the Jedi, but Daynaal freed them while Orryak and the other pirates departed to cut down the Life Day tree. As the Jedi attempted to stop the pirates, Daynaal and Rudi gathered Wookiees to assist them, leading Orryak and the Ganguls to flee. The Wookiees subsequently invited Daynaal to celebrate Life Day.
