Your holiday season in 2024 will be more jolly, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew to reportedly release Holiday 2024 according to Bespin Bulletin.
“Yeah, it’s not what I want and what Bespin Bulletin has heard and what I have now heard from two separate sources is it would be out like after Halloween. Today I spoke to somebody who said that they, this is a Lucasfilm person, expect it to be Holiday 2024. Christmas season. When I hear holiday season, I expect between Thanksgiving and Christmas.”
The series follows four kids who end up on an adventure to make their way home after being lost in the galaxy following a discovery they make on their home planet.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is an upcoming live-action American television series created by Jon Watts and Christopher Ford for the streaming service Disney+. It is part of the Star Wars franchise, taking place in the same time frame as The Mandalorian and its interconnected spin-offs after the events of Return of the Jedi (1983). Skeleton Crew tells a coming-of-age story.
Watts approached Lucasfilm about telling an Amblin Entertainment-style coming-of-age story set in the Star Wars universe, and he was developing the series with Ford by early 2022. It was officially announced that May at Star Wars Celebration, with Jude Law revealed to be starring. Filming had begun by September 2022 in Los Angeles, and wrapped by late January 2023. The child actors in the series were revealed in April 2023.
Skeleton Crew will be released on Disney+ in 2024 with eight episodes.
While many are unhappy we have to wait another year to see the series, it does give us an idea of when we will see the other Star Wars series appear on Disney+. The Acolyte, Tales of the Jedi Season 2, or the third and final season of The Bad Batch. With Skeleton Crew thought to have been farther along than The Acolyte, it seems like a substantial reshuffling of the studio’s release slate is imminent.
So, what should we expect in 2024? First of all, no new films. The earliest release date for a Star Wars movie is in 2025, as shared at Star Wars Celebration 2023. The New Jedi Order film surrounding an older Rey, Dave Filoni’s Mandoverse movie, James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi project, and the Lando movie are just a few that are currently in the works. We will cover all the film news here at SWRPRGGM and on our socials as the news becomes public.
On the Star Wars TV side, The Bad Batch season 2 wrapped up in early 2023 with Omega captured by the Empire and the loss of Tech. It was revealed at Star Wars Celebration 2023 that The Bad Batch season 3 will be the final season and arrive in 2024. Season 3 is currently in production and has no plans to change its 2024 release window. We expect Ming-Na Wen’s Fennec Shand to return for the final season.
Also, 2024 will see the return of Andor for its second and final season. When we last left Cassian Andor, he had escaped prison and had successfully embarrassed the Empire on Ferrix after saving his friends and committing himself to the Rebellion. Filming was just a few weeks away from being completed when the writer and actor strikes began, but there are no updates on whether this will affect season 2’s 2024 release. We still expect to see the series in the summer or fall of 2024. In the trailer at Star Wars Celebration 2023, we saw several montage shots of the returning cast and Mon Mothma saying, “If we do not stand together, we will be crushed.”
The Acolyte will be the first Star Wars TV series to look back at the Old Republic before the Skywalker saga, taking place 100 years before Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Described as a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated. The Acolyte will see the Jedis fall through the Sith’s perspective. A trailer was shown at Star Wars Celebration 2023, but the action-packed trailer has yet to be released. The trailer began with Lee Jung-jae’s character explaining to students in the Jedi Temple that “the Force is powerful… it is a power we must respect.” From there, Carrie-Anne Moss and Amandla Stenberg’s characters are seen engaging in some Force battle in what looks like a cantina, and images of Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, and Rebecca Henderson in action are also shown. Then, right at the end, we get a great shot of multiple Jedi igniting their lightsabers in unison with Jodie Turner Smith’s character saying, “This isn’t about good or bad; it’s about power and who’s allowed to use it.” There is a high chance the series will be pushed to 2025 due to the strikes. We will let you know if we hear any news on the series and release date.
As for some quick site news, 2023 was a really busy year. In March we finished Season 2 of The Bad Batch Source Guide. That was an endeavor with loads of new and updated character stats. The Ahsoka Source Guide was another challenging project we completed in October, with a load of new lore for the Rebels’ and Clone Wars’ characters. I absolutely loved the series, and I hope you did, too. Additionally, we finished edits on The Clone Wars Source Guide this year. The season six and seven individual episodes will appear through March 2024, but behind the scenes, we have time to finish Star Wars Episode I – The Phantom Menace Source Guide, The Rogue One Source Guide, and begin on Star Wars Rebels Source Guide. The Clone Wars Source Guide took three years to complete, starting with the original 2023 shorts that covered the first two months of the war and continuing to the 2005 series. We are resorting a few of the items on the page, but it’s all there for you to enjoy! There have been requests to transform all the data into a PDF in the future, and we hope to do that. Currently, we don’t have anyone who wants to do that. If you are interested in working on that project, don’t hesitate to contact us, and we can provide you with any assistance you need. We create this information for the fans, and it’s there for all of you to use. If you want to put it in a PDF, you are welcome to. We ask to be included in the credits as the source for the information.
Also, you might have noticed we are working on The Young Jedi Adventures around the site. You may not know that the series is canon, and it takes place during the High Republic Era. Though the series is aimed at young children, the characters are highly likely to be developed into live-action characters. If you don’t want to watch the series, we are doing a complete story recap and have started a YJA Source Guide to follow. The kids in the show are aged around 12-14 years old, right before they are selected to move from Youngling to Padawan and the same age as when Ahsoka first joined Anakin during The Clone Wars. The series provides a ton of lore for those interested in Jedi Training. Look past the basic story and how much freedom Jedi Younglings got. It’s eye-opening and great for role-playing backgrounds.
That about wraps up everything. We have some downtime for new Star Wars content, so please enjoy our content, interact, and comment on things you like or if you think any items need adjustment. The best part about this community is that we work together to improve things! MYFBWY! – PTW
