Background: The Abolisher-class heavy cruiser was built from the same basic Vindicator Cruiser hull with a hyperspace pulsemass generator rather than the standard Gravity well generator. With the advent of technology such as the Hyperwave inertial momentum sustainer and other interdiction field bypassing systems which worked around the interdiction field produced by the Gravity well generator, the engineers of the old Galactic Empire created the technology based on hypersphere disruption. The Hyperspace pulsemass generator works by creating tiny spheres of hyperspace energy bubbles or hyperenergy spheres, which are deployed by a generator much like a gravity well. These hyperenergy spheres pull starships from hyperspace like a standard interdiction field or gravity well. However if a vessel attempts to bypass the interdiction field with HIMS or other similar equipment then it may strip away shielding damaging ships and more destructively pulling them from hyperspace.
IN its early days, hyperspace pulsemass technology was highly experimental and saw very limited use due to its price and its instability. The problem at the time was the hyperspace spheres would disperse and dissipate after fifteen minutes. While this issue still exists the Engineering team at IFW in conjunction with the Chiss engineers working with the IFW have extended the field somewhat and stabilized its dissipation rate. Utilizing state of the art containment technology the Hypermass generator can create a field of hyperenergy spheres which can remain viable for twenty minutes. During this time ships are unable to jump to hyperspace.
To Power these generators as weel as the rest of the vessels systems and weapons the Abolisher is the first class to include the Jenth hypermatter reactor developed by the IFW engineering team. A single Jenth reactor can supply the vessel with any power needed and maintain a reserve for when more power is needed to feed the shielding and weapons in battle. The use of the single reactor makes room for the power systems and generation equipment for the eight massive hypermass generators.
Defensivly the vessel has a thin layer of EMNERA Armor Plating and standard ray and particle shielding. anti-attack craft, as well as anti-projectile weapon systems, are spread over the hull to defend the vessel in battle.
While interdiction is its primary role the Abolisher-class does mount a light armament for defensive and capturing purposes. The vessel also houses a complement of boarding shuttles for commerce interdiction missions and transport as well as space for visiting shuttle craft and cargo freighters in the aft hanger.
